Tell the Wolves I'm Home by Carol Rifka Brunt

I worked at a nice little newspaper as a writer and copy editor. Kind of depressing because even though we were living in a lovely house in the woods we knew we were going to be moving again soon. I also saw my first of many black widow spiders here and picked the best cherries in the world by the bucketful. This is where I lived when I got my first publication acceptance. It is the only desert region in Canada and there is-how to say this politely-not so much to do in the Okanagan Valley, which meant that I had all kinds of time to dedicate to writing. This is where I had my second and third kids. This is where I was going when I boarded an Amtrak train at 8 1/2 months pregnant. Most importantly, this is where I had my first (and almost my second) child.ĥ) Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, Canada It's where I learned to knit and quilt and garden and bake bread. This is also where I worked with mentally ill elderly people and brain injured young men. Ended with an MA in philosophy and a future husband. Started out doing English and Medieval History. This worked out okay until I decided to go all gothy and people didn't want to hire me anymore. Had jobs like childrens' party entertainer and bagel shop server and summer camp counselor.

On short stories, essays and the beginnings of a new novel. That novel, Tell the Wolves I'm Home, will be published by Dial Press (US) and Macmillan (UK) in June 2012. In 2007, I was awarded a generous Arts Council grant to write my first novel. InĢ006, I was one of three fiction writers selected for the New Writing Partnership's New Writing Ventures award. I've also published articles in places like Family Fun and Valley Kids. My writing has been published in literary journals like The North American Reviewand The Sun.
